Many of you think that a year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4..If so why 1700,1800,1900 are not leap years eventhough it is divisible by 4????
Reason:
A normal year has 365.242199 days (according to Encyclopedia Britannica).i.e, approximately 365.25 days. Every 4 years once we get a leap year.
So every 100 years is not a leap year,but every 400 years is a leap year.
So to find whether a year is leap year or not use the following conditions:
- If it is not a centurial year, we can say these years as leap year if it is divisible by 4.
- If it is a centurial year, we can say these years as leap year, that it must be divisible by 4 and 400.
centurial year-1700,1800,1900,2000,2100,etc
non-centurial year- 2001,2002,2003,2004,etc
